There exist several problems in the built architectural realm, most of which cannot simply be solved by responsive solutions, but through apposite planning from its conceptual stages. It is infact the building that shapes the mind of the user and the site and its surroundings what shape the building.
Mall Grande, is a shopping complex located at Kadapra, that caters to the needs of the town and around-town. A building that acclimatizes with its context and people.
Set in an urban context, this part of town is filled with structures cladded by AC panels. Essentially this town’s character is set by these ACP cladded structures. This is so prominent that it has defined the architecture scenario in the town. We felt this need of reducing this visual noise, a building that could simplify the town on the eyes.
Kadapra is a village in the district of Kottayam, which is growing rapidly into a small time town. The nearest largest town is Thiruvalla which is situated within 6 Km from Kadapra. We wanted to create a space that would not repeat the visual noise and retain the harmony in the suburban landscape of Kadapra
A mall is a public building that needs to be accessible to all layers of society. The book Architecture of coexistence building pluralism’, serves importance in this context, “Building pluralism” means designing for a respectful inclusion of different cultural needs, practices, and traditions. The facade of the building is one major factor that contributes to this. The randomness of the landscape and terran, in the specific context, inspired the use of randomly placed columns in the facade, and pockets of greenery with seating amidst, creating a dramatic entry and a restrained mood that connects to the public
