Resort at Kanthalloor
Nestled amidst the mist-covered hills and orchards of Kanthalloor, the resort is conceived as a destination where architecture becomes an extension of the mountain landscape. Inspired by the region’s indigenous settlements and the timeless simplicity of Muniyara stone structures, the design reinterprets vernacular architecture through a contemporary lens. Rather than imposing a singular built form, the resort is composed of a collection of carefully positioned cottages that step gently along the natural contours, preserving the site’s topography, existing trees, and panoramic valley views.
Each cottage is designed to provide privacy while maintaining a strong visual connection with the surrounding landscape. Natural stone, exposed timber, earthy textures, and sloping roofs respond to the mountain climate, blending seamlessly with the environment. Large openings frame views of the hills, while shaded verandahs and outdoor decks encourage guests to experience the changing seasons, cool breezes, and serene atmosphere of Kanthalloor.
The masterplan is organized around pedestrian-friendly pathways that weave through orchards, landscaped gardens, and communal gathering spaces, creating moments of discovery throughout the site. Shared amenities, including the restaurant, recreational spaces, and viewing decks, are positioned to maximize the dramatic vistas while ensuring minimal disturbance to the natural terrain.
Climate-responsive planning, sustainable material choices, and a deep respect for local culture define the project. The result is a contemporary mountain retreat that celebrates the essence of Kanthalloor—offering an authentic hospitality experience where architecture, landscape, and tradition coexist in perfect harmony.
