Description

Resort at Wayanad

Perched on the undulating landscape of Wayanad, the resort is envisioned as an immersive retreat where architecture becomes an extension of the forest. Rather than dominating the terrain, the design embraces the site’s natural contours, allowing the villas to step gently along the hillside while preserving existing vegetation and minimizing earthwork. Elevated above the ground on a light structural framework, each villa appears to float above the landscape, reducing its footprint and ensuring uninterrupted views of the surrounding valley. The architecture is defined by clean contemporary forms, expansive glazing, warm timber ceilings, exposed natural materials, and generous overhangs that seamlessly connect indoor living with the outdoors.

The masterplan is organized along a central access road that follows the site’s natural gradient, with individual villas carefully positioned to ensure privacy while maintaining visual continuity with the landscape. Stone retaining walls, landscaped terraces, and pedestrian pathways integrate movement into the topography, transforming every journey through the resort into a scenic experience. Large private decks, floor-to-ceiling glazing, and open living spaces dissolve the boundary between architecture and nature, allowing daylight, fresh air, and panoramic views to become part of everyday life.

Climate-responsive planning forms the foundation of the design. Broad roof overhangs provide shade from tropical sun and rain, while cross ventilation, elevated construction, and extensive landscaping create naturally comfortable interiors throughout the year. The result is a contemporary hospitality destination that combines minimalist architecture with the richness of Wayanad’s landscape, offering guests an experience of tranquility, privacy, and a deep connection with nature.
